Los Musicos de su Alteza
Biography
Full version
Luis Antonio González founded the present ensemble in 1992 with the aim of reviving the most significant works from that particular period in Spanish baroque. The group works closely with scholars and musicologists, in order to perform as faithfully as possible the original composition. As a result of a deep investigation, Los Músicos de Su Alteza, has re-discovered Joseph Ruiz Samaniego's Villancicos, Vísperas and Lamentaciones as well as works by Juan Pérez Roldán, Filippo Coppola (his opera El robo de Proserpina and his Requiem) and José de Nebra.
In March 2000 Los Músicos de Su Alteza inaugurated their own concert season "Música Antigua en la Real Capilla de Santa Isabel de Portugal", supported by Zaragoza's Local Authority and Council. This new role allowed them to approach the European baroque repertoire, which they are now performing on a regular basis (Bach, Händel, Pergolesi, etc...).
Los Músicos de Su Alteza have appeared at prestigious festivals (Ambronay, Fribourg, Sevilla, Murcia, Salamenca, Gijón, Jaca, Cuenca, Lyon, Lessay) and in the best concert venues in Spain and abroad such as Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Catedral in Barcelona, Ateneu G. Enescu in Bucharest, Ambronay Festival, Fribourg's Sacred Music Festival, Den Haag festival, Maggio dei Monumenti in Naples, Festival Spaziomusica in Sassari, Quartu Sant'Elena in Sardegna and Automne Musical in Tunis. Last September, Los Musicos embarked on a tour of 9 concerts on the ‘Camino de Compostelle' in both France and Spain.
Their discography include Miserere and La Divina Filotea by José Nebra for which they received great acclaim, including a Diapason d'Or and a CD Compact 2000's prize. More recently, they have just released Los Villancicos by Joseph Ruiz Samaniego for the ALPHA Productions label, which was presented in the Arques-la-Bataille festival.
Los Músicos de Su Alteza was honoured with a prize at the 9th International Competition Van Wassenaer for early music ensembles in Den Hague in 1996.
Founding members of AEGIVE (Asociación Española de Grupos Instrumentales y Vocales Especializados), Los Músicos de Su Alteza collaborate regularly with CSIC (Spanish Council for Scientific Research). The ensemble is sponsored by the Gobierno de Aragón and the Orange Foundation.

Philippe Andriot - Le Tout Lyon, December 2007
"Los Músicos de Su Alteza played with extraordinary force and character. Some of the contrasts might be considered brusque but the occasion merited something as lively, energetic, and passionate."
Pablo J. Vayón, Diario de Sevilla, 3rd April 2007
"Los Músicos de Su Alteza (…) with a splendid group of singers (…) and highly concentrated instrumentalists under orders from Luis Antonio González, enlightened and wise in this type of proposal, achieved (…) an atmosphere that thrilled and brightened an age. A real success."
J. Á. Vela del Campo, El País, 25th March 2007
"Los Músicos de Su Alteza defend José de Nebra’s music as if it were their own, fully dedicated to the recovery of the Aragonese composer (…) A demonstration of divine inspiration."
Alberto González Lapuente, ABC, 2nd April 2007
"Their concert in Aranjuez two days ago, dedicated exclusively to music written by the Calatayud- born composer José de Nebra was exquisite. (...) The group based in Zaragoza has had an extremely rigorous career in its demands for musicological foundations. Their reading of the Miserere was of a very rare intensity. The musicians thoroughly enjoyed the art of making music, the conductor inspired vitality and the singers shone in their performances. Raquel Andueza was vibrant, like a volcano in full eruption while the very young Olalla Alemán performed in great melodic taste and extraordinary refinement. All of them together transmitted a flawless sensation of power and strength. Nebra's music flooded the Capilla de Palacio. The theoreticians did not overrate the score. It is, in fact beautiful. Even more so when played with the grandiosity of an orchestral distribution without the restrictions of a smaller chamber ensemble. (...) The audience appreciated the singularity of the concert, right from the beginning to end, when they bid farewell to the musicians with a standing ovation. This was well deserved. Los Músicos de Su alteza have sailed through Aranjuez, as Luigi Nono would say, like “a wave of strength and light”. We will be speaking well of this wonderful Aragonese group for a long time to come."
J.A. Vela del Campo, El País, 29th May 2006
"an excellent concert"
Federico Hernández, Scherzo, May 2005
"It’s impossible to say something concrete. Impressive continuo –double harpsichord-, magnificent violins, and a singer’s duet that stands out in musicality and expressiveness, which are complete. As Literes said in one of his cantatas: «Más no puede ser»"
Álvaro de Dios, La Gaceta, 2nd December 2004
"The ensemble conducted by Luis Antonio González presented itself into very serious and severe performing premises, which we can compare to any of the great ensembles devoted to early music. This musicians’ sound did not have to envy any of those, achieving a sharp style in rhythms and dynamics, and a juicy one in details. However, if we liked the instrumental chapter, we loved more the vocal one, being able to appreciate the tenor’s beautiful timbre of José Pizarro, and especially the charming voice of Raquel Andueza"
G. Moral Álvarez, Alerta, 23rd May 2004
" It was, without any doubt, one of the most interesting musical evenings that Gamazo’s building has hosted. This Enlightment period jewel [Amor aumenta el valor, by José de Nebra] had in the baroque orchestra Los Músicos de su Alteza a fresh and incisive performance, very well presented by the focussed direction of Luis Antonio González"
R. Hontañón, El diario montañés, 23rd May 2004
"A magnificence version of Carissimi’s oratorio Jephte"
Francisco Javier Aguirre, CD Compact, March 2003
"A new and excellent contribution from Los Músicos de Su Alteza to the knowledge of our historical heritage"
Andrés Ruiz Tarazona, Diverdi issue 110
"This group is one of the best that we have in Spain (...) due to the individual and collective quality of the performers, due also to their personal (and really interesting) vision of Spanish baroque music. And due to that wonderful drive that a muse seems to blow to them..."
Francisco de Paula Sánchez, CD Compact, January 2000
"One of the most demanded groups of the moments"
Cosme Marina, CD Compact, September 1999
"A breath of fresh air. A fantastic job from the Aragonese group Los Músicos de Su Alteza in this interesting review of the Spanish baroque music from the XVIIth Century. Unknown pieces that, thanks to the work of musicologists’ and the group’s director, Luis Antonio González, can be performed today. The instrumentalists and singers perform this music with an outstanding taste and stylistic knowledge."
Raúl Mallavibarrena, Ritmo, February 1998
"Here there is passion, expressiveness and technique: this disc [IN ICTV OCVLI ] is terrific, outstanding, or if you prefer so, Prize CD Compact."
Francisco de Paula Sánchez, CD Compact, July-August 1997
"With musicians like these, the quality of our repertoire is assured"
Jacobo de Regoyos, Amadeus, May 1997
"Los Músicos de Su Alteza have gone deeply into the expression of the pieces, having a focussed intention and a hint of drama that fits the scores, which are stunning due to their religious and sensual amalgam, almost erotic; a very refined and intense music came to life again by an impeccable instrumental group (…) and admirable voices."
Antonio Lasierra, El Periódico, 10th October 1996
"A simply and utterly memorable concert. Bravo."
Joaquín Aranda, Heraldo de Aragón, 9th October 1996
"The performance was excellent, with Luis Antonio González directing the vocal and instrumental group Los Músicos de Su Alteza (…) All of them offered an authentic stylistic and refined musicality lesson."
Pau Nadal, El País, 27th July 1995
