Leonora Armellini

Born in Padova in 1992, Leonora Armellini became a recipient of the Special Prize "Janina Nawroca" for "exceptional musical rendition and the beauty of her sound" as part of the 2010 International Chopin Competition. She received great support from both the audience and the press for her outstanding performance throughout the competition. As a result, Martha Argerich, a member of the jury, invited her to participate in her festival in Lugano in June 2011.

Leonora Armellini began piano studies at the age of four under the guidance of Laura Palmieri with whom she gained her first diploma at ten years of age. Six years later, she graduated with highest honours at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma with Sergio Perticaroli. Alongside her studies she has attended numerous masterclasses with Lilya Zilberstein, Marian Mika, Pietro De Maria, Elisso Virsaladze, Jeffrey Swann, Claudio Martinez Mehner and Matti Raekallio. She studies composition with Giovanni Bonato at the Conservatoire C. Pollini in her native city.

Leonora has given more than 250 recitals across Italy, including Sala S. Cecilia del Parco della Musica di Roma, Teatro Dal Verme di Milano, Sala Puccini del Conservatorio di Milano, Lingotto di Torino, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Piccinni di Bari and Alexander Hall di Cortina d'Ampezzo, and abroad, including London, Vienna, Prague, Warsaw, New Dehli, Tunis, Paris and New York, where she performed at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall.

The list of orchestras with whom Leonora has been invited as a soloist is substantial for such a young pianist: Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, I Solisti Veneti, Kronstadt Philharmoniker, Orchestra del Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, Orchestra Sinfonica del Friuli Venezia Giulia, I Virtuosi Italiani, I Solisti di Perugia, Orchestra Bruno Maderna, Orchestre de Chambre de Kiev, Orchestre National d'Ukraine and Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, under the baton of Claudio Scimone, Zoltan Pesko, Anton Nanut, Alexander Rabinovich-Barakowsky, Damian Iorio, Daniele Giorgi, Giordano Bellincampi, Christopher Franklin, Corrado Rovaris, Massimiliano Caldi and Raffaele Napoli.

She has already mastered an extensive chamber music repertoire (mainly violin and piano, as well as wind quartet and piano) and has her own trio with Laura Bortolloto, violin, and her brother and cellist Ludovico.

In 2007 Leonora recorded a CD dedicated to Chopin with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto and conductor Anton Nanut , which features Chopin's concerto No 2, his Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante. She has also recorded Mozart's Concerto KV595 with the Philharmonic Orchestra of "Alpe-Adria" under the baton of Luigi Pistore, for the label Velut Luna.

She has participated in various Radio and TV broadcasts, including a live recording for Radio Tre of a recital for the "Concerti della Domenica al Quirinale."

Née à Padoue en 1992, Leonora Armellini est lauréate de l'édition 2010 du Concours International Frédéric Chopin à Varsovie où elle a remporté le Prix Spécial "Janina Nawrocka", pour "l'exécution musicale exceptionnelle et la beauté du son", et créé un mini-scandale en se voyant refuser l'accès en finale. La presse polonaise a relaté les faits, faisant écho à l'ovation qu'elle reçut du public tout au long du concours. Martha Argerich, membre du jury, l'a d'ailleurs invité à donner un récital au festival qu'elle organise à Lugano en juin 2011.

Leonora Armellini a commencé le piano à l'âge de quatre ans dans la classe de Laura Palmieri et obtint six ans plus tard son premier diplôme avec félicitations, suivi de la récompense suprême de l'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia à Rome en 2009 dans la classe de Sergio Perticaroli. Elle a déjà interprété un répertoire important de musique de chambre (violon et piano, quintette avec vents) et joue en trio constitué avec Laura Bortolotto et son frère violoncelliste, Ludovico.

Leonora a enregistré un disque Chopin avec l'Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto et Anton Nanut en 2007 (concerto No 2, Andante Spianato et la Grande Polonaise Brillante de Chopin) et le Concerto KV595 de Mozart avec l'Orchestre Philharmonique "Alpe-Adria" et Luigi Pistore (2008), pour le label Velut Luna.

Elle a participé à plusieurs émissions télévisées et interprété un récital dans le cadre des "Concerti della Domenica al Quirinale" retransmis en direct sur Radio Tre.
