Yossif Ivanov

Acclaimed as "a player of impressive authority and presence" (The Strad) and "one of the top violinists of tomorrow" (Diapason), Yossif Ivanov, at the age of 25, has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting violinists of his generation. At the age of 16 he was awarded First Prize at the Montreal International Competition, and two years later the Second Prize, as well as the Public Prize, at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.

Over the past few seasons Yossif Ivanov has made acclaimed debuts in all the major European halls. He has performed with orchestras such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI, Vancouver Symphony, Residentie Orchestra The Hague, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Lucerne Symphony, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Milano Verdi Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Luxemburg Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lille, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, as well as all major Belgian orchestras.

He has collaborated with well-known conductors such as Neëme Järvi, Marin Alsop, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vladimir Jurowski, Kazushi Ono, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Philippe Herreweghe, Jaap Van Zweden, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Yuri Simonov, Louis Langrée and John Axelrod.

In 2010 he was invited to tour North American with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (under Vladimir Jurowski) and made his Asian debut (Malaysian Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestras).

Yossif Ivanov has been invited to play recitals at the Menton & Montpellier Festivals (France), Mozarteum Salzburg, Tokyo (Kichijoji Theatre), Philharmonie Essen, Beethovenfest Bonn, the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti Roma, Carnegie Hall (New York), and the Ladies' Morning Musical Club in Montréal. As well as his regular recital partner Itamar Golan, Yossif has collaborated with the Ingrid Fliter, Frank Braley, David Kadouch and Plamena Mangova.

Highlights of the upcoming seasons include his debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra (Bruch) City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (Bruch), Louisiana Philharmonic & Columbus Symphony (Mozart KV219), Oregon Symphony (Dutilleux), Filarmonica Artura Toscanini, and the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, as well as return performances with the Brabants Orchestra (Bruch), Orchestre National d'Ile de France (Brahms) and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. Future recital engagements include Italy (Ferrara, Ravenna & Genova with Itamar Golan) and Belgium (Bozar, De Bijloke Ghent).

His debut recording on the Ambroisie/Naïve label (sonatas by Franck,Ysaye & D'Haene) was awarded a Diapason d'Or de l'Année. Both his concerto recordings (concerti by Bartók & Shostakovich, as well as a Dutilleux CD) also received high critical acclaim.

Yossif Ivanov has studied the violin with Zakhar Bron, Igor & Valery Oistrakh and Augustin Dumay. Since 2008 he has remained the youngest violin teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

Yossif Ivanov plays on the 1699 "Lady Tennant" Stradivarius, kindly lent by the Stradivarius Society of Chicago.

Il obtient le Premier Grand Prix du Concours Musical International de Montréal à l'âge de 16 ans et remporte le Deuxième Prix au Concours Reine Elisabeth de Belgique ainsi que le Prix du Public deux ans plus tard, et est nommé 'Révélation de l'Année' au MIDEM en 2006.

Récemment, Yossif Ivanov s'est produit à Londres (London Philharmonic Orchestra), Berlin (Konzerthausorchester), à Paris (Salle Pleyel, Cité de la Musique et Louvre), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Vienne (Konzerthaus), Salzbourg (Mozarteum) et Genève (Orchestre de la Suisse Romande). La saison précédente, il fit des débuts très remarqués aux Etats-Unis (tournée avec le London Philharmonic Orchestra sous la direction de Vladimir Jurowski) et en Asie (Malaysian Philharmonic et Singapore Symphony Orchestra).

Les festivals de Menton et Montpellier, la Philharmonie de Essen, le Beethovenfest Bonn, l'Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti Roma, le Carnegie Hall et le Ladies' Morning Musical Club de Montréal l'ont accueilli en récital. Ses accompagnateurs réguliers sont Itamar Golan et Philippe Ivanov ; il collabore également avec les pianistes Ingrid Fliter, Frank Braley, David Kadouch et Plamena Mangova.

Yossif a été invité à jouer avec l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, de Lucerne, Residentieorkest/La Haye, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, Sinfonia Varsovia, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Orchestre National de Lille, Milano Verdi Orchestra, Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Orchestre Symphonique de la RAI, Orchestre Philharmonique de Rotterdam, ainsi que tous les orchestres belges, sous la direction de chefs reconnus comme Neëme Järvi, Marin Alsop, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vladimir Jurowski, Jaap Van Zweden, Philippe Herreweghe, Yoel Levi, John Axelrod, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Muhai Tang, Jesus Lopez-Corbos, Kees Bakels et Yuri Simonov.

Son premier CD, paru chez Ambroisie/Naïve, a reçu le « Diapason d'Or de l'Année » en novembre 2006. Il a été suivi par deux magnifiques enregistrements de concertos (Shostakovich/Bartok, puis Dutilleux/D'Haene) qui ont tous deux été salués par la critique et un très beau récital 'Con Passione' avec le pianiste Itamar Golan. 

Après ses premiers pas musicaux, Yossif Ivanov poursuivit son éducation musicale auprès de Zakhar Bron, Igor et Valery Oistrakh et Augustin Dumay. Il est le plus jeune professeur du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles.

Yossif Ivanov joue le Stradivarius « Lady Tennant » de 1699, avec l'aimable autorisation de la Stradivarius Society de Chicago.
