Laureate of the 2011 Klaudia Taev Competition for Young Opera singers, Latvian-born soprano Elina Shimkus has a voice which “deserves the highest recognition” according to Der Neue Merker. Recent engagements include Damon in Acis and Galatea in St. Petersburg, the Librarian in the Latvian contemporary opera Iemūrētie by ĒriksEšenvalds at the Latvian National Opera as well as Euridice in L’Orfeo, and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at Estonian National Opera. Elina will be recording her first CD with Harmonia Mundi: Mare Balticum a selection of songs by composers from the 9 Baltic countries.
