Reginald Mobley performs across both Europe and the United States with the Monteverdi Choir and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra
Following his recent European tour with the Monteverdi Choir, Reginald Mobley now returns to the United states for a series of concerts with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra
Reginald Mobley continues to excite audiences with his diverse and varied performances, appearing in solo recitals of African American spirituals and improvisations alongside works of the Western European musical canon, as well as performing extensively as a soloist with major early music ensembles. In a recent article published by Stir Vancouver, he discusses his desire to liberate classical music, making it accessible to the wider community and informing audiences about the darker corners of its history.
This month, Reginald has mostly been performing early music favourites: namely, Bach’s Mass in B minor (with the Monteverdi Choir) and Muffat’s Missa in labore requies. Having said that, the latter work was placed alongside a world premiere by Mason Bates, a contemporary composer who regularly explores the intersection between technology and music in his work. Known for his immersive compositions, Mason Bates encourages the re-imagination of the traditional classical music performance, instead placing an emphasis upon the integration of classical music into contemporary culture. This interesting juxtaposition is something not unknown to Reginald, and it promises to be an extremely exciting programme. Tonight is the second out of four performances taking place in the US.
Reginald returns to England next month for two concerts with the Academy of Ancient Music, performing the role of ‘Enlightenment’ in Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo.
